I run and read obsessively. I can eat an entire pan of Rice Krispie treats in one sitting. I have two pretty cute kids, a wonderful husband and a very mellow dog.

Race Report: G.O.A.T.Z. 50K trail run
Howdy, friends. On Sunday, I ran my first ultramarathon — the G.O.A.T.Z. 50K in Omaha at Glenn Cunningham Park. It was also my first trail race. Good idea to combine my longest race with uneven footing, right? Friends, it was … Continue reading

Howdy, friends. I’ve been mowing through books lately, which always happens during a race taper for me. Suddenly I have all this free time, and I don’t fall asleep at 8:15 p.m. because I’ve been up since 4:15 a.m. It’s … Continue reading
How much gun talk is normal for kids?
Friends, here is my parenting column this week: A few weeks ago, I called a friend of mine who has four sons. I was desperate for advice about an issue I never expected to come up in our house: Guns. … Continue reading

Howdy, friends. Sometimes, you really can judge a book by its cover. I picked this up, randomly, at the library, just because I thought the image was so haunting: Turns out that was pretty telling for what’s inside the book, … Continue reading

Howdy, friends. This is what I’m reading right now: I’m just over halfway through it — and can’t put it down. I want to call in sick and read it. Here’s a summary from Booklist: Already a runaway hit throughout … Continue reading

Howdy, friends. This is what I’m reading now: Here is a review from the Washington Post. And one from USA Today. I love all his books. I started this one last night and was immediately hooked. If I weren’t so … Continue reading

Week in running
Howdy, friends. I’m three weeks out from the race and had an OK week. I ended up with 54 miles, including 17.5 on Saturday and 17 on Sunday. It’s weird to have so many of my miles locked up on … Continue reading

Family Dinner: Awesome and awful
Some nights it seems to be OK. Even enjoyable. Other nights, it’s painful for everyone and full of glaring, crying and frustration. Not to mention food on the floor. I’m talking about family dinner. Specifically, family dinner with two working … Continue reading

Successful breastfeeding …
Howdy, friends. I read this today, about the challenges moms face when trying to get lactation services covered by insurance. I nursed both my kids — Jack for over a year, and Viv for about 10 months — and I … Continue reading
