I run and read obsessively. I can eat an entire pan of Rice Krispie treats in one sitting. I have two pretty cute kids, a wonderful husband and a very mellow dog.

My Year in Books
Howdy, friends. I keep a detailed running log every year, and often post the stats from that. I’ll do that this week still (along with my derailed push-up challenge). But late in 2012, I also started keeping a reading log. … Continue reading

Christmas 2013: A plunger, a virus, a parasite
It started the week before Christmas. My dad, my hero, called and told me he couldn’t make his visit because he hadn’t been feeling well. He went to his doctor and had some tests run. We all awaited the results, … Continue reading

All they want for Christmas …
… is a Nerf gun. UPS or FedEx or whoever is delivering this, please hurry. Or there will be one extremely disappointed kiddo here on Dec. 25. It’s all he’s asked for — and it’s on the list he wrote … Continue reading

Column: Christmas Traditions
Howdy, friends. Here is my weekly column: Everyone knows that when you get married, you have to make some compromises. OK, a lot of compromises. I prefer it when my husband is the one who bends, but it doesn’t always … Continue reading

Holiday hilarity — in photos
Howdy, friends. Just a little photo action from the past week. The kids had their Christmas program. Jack did a great job, and did a little dance with another preschooler. He perfectly played his part — standing there while his … Continue reading

Currently Reading: “The Particle at the end of the Universe”
Howdy, friends. I took a week off work (glorious!) — and made it a week off everything. I barely read work email (instead of reading it nonstop all day long, every day and into the night). I barely ran (took … Continue reading

Why we just say no to ‘Elf on a Shelf’
My coworker Mike and I started joking about Elf on a Shelf one day. Turns out, he and his wife and their four kids adore the creepy little elf. We decided to write dueling columns on our elf feelings. I … Continue reading

Currently reading: “Tapestry of Fortunes” by Elizabeth Berg
Howdy, friends. This is what I’m reading now: Here is the author’s web site. And a review here and here. I’m about halfway through. It’s a fast, easy read. Sometimes it’s nice to just have a book to breeze through … Continue reading
