Lennox 4th of July parade

Howdy, friends.

The real reason my friend Chris and I ran to Lennox yesterday was because this small town south of Sioux Falls puts on an awesome, old-fashioned Fourth of July.

There are road races — and my husband Philip and friends Kelly and Owen ran them. And there’s a big parade. It isn’t fancy. But it’s friendly and fun and full of candy for the kids. (So much candy that Jack and his friend Sam filled an old ice cream container to the top.)

Philip and I always like to do the races, and the kids love the parade. Chris was game for spending hours sitting in camp chairs after running 22 miles. (And here’s a huge thank you to the Lennox High School principal for opening the locker rooms for us when we rolled into town.)

Here’s our happy 4th in photos.

Viv shops for morning snacks between the race and the parade. Do not let the person who just ran 22 miles pick the snacks. There was a lot of chocolate milk and a LOT of junk food.

Parades = fire trucks

I love that there is a truck full of drain tile in this parade. Yay rural America!

She kept putting a band-aid over her mouth, which was hilarious.
